What Did We Think of Arrival

Arrival is a 2016 sci-fi thrill staring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. In it, Adams plays a linguist tasked with decoding an alien language, after 12 mysterious crafts land on Earth. Arrival is a tight 2 hour ride that maintains the balance between realism and science-fiction very well. Although there are points, that the movie falls down, overall the story is well worth the price of admission.

What did we think of Arrival?

Arrival came recommended to us by our very own host, Ashman. Chris had previously read the novella "Story of Your Life" by Ted Chiang, written in 1998. As part of our attempt to force each other out of our respective comfort zones, Ashman stepped up to the plate and delivered. Unfortunately, opinions were slightly divided on Arrival, so make sure to watch the movie and form your own opinions. ‘What Did We Think Of Arrival’ is available whoever good podcasts can be found. Obviously there a spoilers.

Video games are good. Sometimes, being able to turn off your brain and disconnect from reality is exactly what the doctor ordered. Of course, much like everything in life, video games can be polarizing. In an effort to find common ground for everyone, Angry Bookworm Radio has gathered three very different gamers together to discuss what games we have been playing. ‘What Games We’ve Been Playing’ is now available everywhere. In the latest episode of ‘Talks About’ we take a look through our various game libraries and discuss what is currently taking up a lot of our time.

Straight out of the gate, we get a solid recommendation for ‘Control’ on the Xbox Game Pass. However, in classic ABW Radio fashion, and in staying in line with our previous Video Game shows, we end up on ‘Red Dead Redemption II’. Additionally, we discuss the merits of next generation consoles as well as how dog-shit previous generation consoles are. Similarly, we take a look at what we think the future of gaming will be.

‘What Games We’ve Been Playing’ is available wherever good podcasts are found. If you enjoy listening to our nonsense, consider leaving a rating or review wherever you listen to us.

'What Would You Air Bud'

What Would You Air Bud

The 1997 classic ‘Air Bud’ sent shockwaves though not just the entertainment industry but the sports industry as well. Although the film doesn't explore it, the ramifications of the complete lack of any rule regarding animals are staggering. In this weeks episode of Hypothetically, we take a look at what activities could potentially be improved with the addition of an animal.

There is no rule that says podcasters have to be professional.

In our latest episode, ’What Would You Air Bud’, we extend this oversight to three different activities. Obviously, a question of this magnitude requires the optimal amount of planning. Although our answers may surprise you, rest assured that we consulted many experts to come to the conclusions that we did. Strangely enough, after doing our shrewd planning, all three of your favorite idiots decided to use the same animal. Consequently, it may also seem that some sort of equine bias exists among Angry Bookworm Radio members? Probably.

'Cars...What?'

Cars

Once again we find ourselves at odds with the Pixar universe. As we have before, we are taking too deep a look at another animated kids movie, this time with ‘Cars’. Despite our previous experience in the matter we quickly find ourselves out of our depth. It would seem as though whenever you have to analyze sentience in inanimate objects things get complicated.

Of course, one cannot examine ‘Cars’ without also taking a look at ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’.

Does the very useful engine offer us an explanation as to the origin of the world of ‘Cars’?

Or could if be that we are simply grasping at straws?

In contrast, would it make more sense that the cars we see are not entirely mechanical at all? What if the world in which the film is set depicts the aftermath of some terrible invasion of some kind?

In the latest episode of ‘Hypothetically’ we take a long hard look at these, and more, as potential explanations for ‘Cars’ and the world it is set in. ‘Cars’ what is available wherever good podcasts are found. 'Get Spooky' presents D.B Cooper

D.B Cooper

In 1971, a flight 305 out of Portland took off for Seattle airport. Onboard the plane was a middle-aged man in a black suit carrying a briefcase. This man, who identified himself as D.B Cooper was about to go down in history.

Recently, we published an in depth blog post on the events that took place on Thanksgiving Eve, 1971. However if you find yourself wanting more on the D.B Cooper story, you are in luck. On the latest episode of ‘Get Spooky’ we try and do what the FBI hasn’t been able. By applying our flawless problem solving skills to the D.B Cooper hijacking, we come closer than anyone else has since the incident occurred.

Well, not really.

However we do have an in-depth debate on the merits, or lack there of, of clip-on ties. Additionally we discuss whether or not someone could have faked the entire hijacking. Mostly though we just discover that crimes may have been easier to pull off back in the 1970s.

  • Was D.B Cooper ex-military?
  • What were his motives?
  • Where is he now?
  • Did he disappear back to Asgard or did he go on to direct the room?

Check out ‘Get Spooky’ wherever good podcasts are found and give our D.B Cooper episode a listen. Don’t forget to subscribe to us wherever you listen, and if we earned it, throw a rating our way.
