A zombie heist film…
Look…I will see this movie because it interests me. Just to make it clear, I am not happy that this film interest me, nor am I proud of that fact either.
I like zombie movies. Sue me.
That being said, I have several glaring questions that will probably be answered in the film. However due to my lack of time traveling abilities I will ask them here.
Why would anyone pull a heist during a zombie apocalypse?
As we see in the trailer this is not a small outbreak situation. This is some ‘World War Z’, ‘Dead Rising’ levels of zombie infestation. At that point, why would anyone even care about money? Wouldn’t you want to rob a water tower and control fresh water? Call me crazy but paper money would not be at the top of my mind.
The action in this movie looks great and Dave Bautista looks like he is having fun. Not every movie has to be a poetic commentary on social situations. Sometimes it is good to just unplug from reality and watch a big dumb movie.
That’s what this will be. A big dumb zombie movie.
I could be completely wrong though. Netflix has a pretty decent track record and it looks like some serious money went into this. Money that according to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Werner Bros. was unwilling to put forward.
They didn’t want to spend that kind of money on a zombie movie, or just didn’t take it that seriously. I was always like, ‘Look guys, this is more than [just a zombie movie],’ but it fizzled out.

You also cannot discount Zach Snyder’s ability to present a very attractive looking film. Perhaps I am judging this movie a bit too harsh, but it literally remains to be seen.
‘Army of the Dead’ will premier on Netflix, May 21st.
