Who is the new Captain America anyway?
After being passed the mantle of Captain America by Steve Rogers at the end of ‘Endgame’, Sam Wilson feels conflicted about his new role. Early on in the first episode we get a flashback to Sam’s conversation with Steve and a reminder of how Sam felt the shield belonged to someone else. As a result, Sam decides to donate the shield to the Smithsonian and retiring the mantle of Captain America. However It would seem that the United States government had other ideas in the form of John Walker.

In the comics, Walker is an ex-military superhero is also known as US Agent. He is a government sponsored off brand Captain America. After Steve Rogers walks away from the Captain America persona, John Walker quickly adopts the mantle. Though, when compared to Steve Rogers, Walker has a much more violent approach to conflict resolution. Consequently, what we will likely get a PG John Walker on camera, and an ultra violent Captain America on missions. Seeing the two different sides of the character will give us a good sense of just how unhinged Walker actually is. Additionally, the reveal of a new Captain America will no doubt fuel Sam Wilson’s regret over giving up the shield. This will no doubt be one of the driving forces throughout the series as Sam works to reclaim the title of Captain America.
