‘The Lord of the Rings’ Series From Amazon Has A Staggering Budget

It would seem as though Amazon is not pulling any punches with the upcoming series. The first season has a staggering $465 million budget.

It’s hard to believe that ‘The Lord of the Rings’ came out twenty years ago. When the news first broke that Amazon was planning a rebooted TV series based on the novels, many fans were wondering why. It is so rare to see something so perfectly adapted straight out of the gate, especially around the time the films were released. However, twenty years certainly does seem like enough time to give a fresh coat of paint to a beloved franchise.

Thankfully, it would seem as though Amazon is not pulling any punches with the upcoming series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first season has a staggering $465 million budget. For reference, the combined budget for the original three films was just about $281 million. Even when adjusted for inflation, the Amazon series STILL has a larger budget than the Peter Jackson series.

Although a huge budget does not always mean great things for fans; take Game of Thrones for example, fans are still cautiously optimistic. We have still seen nothing from Amazon’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ as of yet. What information we do have is limited to casting and filming locations. In December of 2020, Amazon released a list of 20 cast members including Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Ian Blackburn and Kip Chapman. Additionally, the series is setting up to be a prequel to the original story. Filming will take place in New Zealand once again.

Production is already underway for Amazon’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ as it aims for a release later this year.
