‘The Floreana Island Murders’ Now Available from Get Spooky

In 1929 a German doctor named Friedrich Ritter and his former patient Dore Strauch landed on Floreana in the Galapagos. Both had left their spouses and set off to create an island paradise far from the hustle and bustle of the city. 

Drawn by the allure of island and it’s stories, is Heinz and Margret Wittmer. They arrive in 1932 on the island with their son Harry. Margret also ends up giving birth on the island to their second child. Despite living on the small island together, the two families struggle to co-exist. Friedrich had left Germany to remove himself from society and saw the addition of the Wittmers as a burden; especially with the expectation that he will help birth the coming baby.

Later that year, just as the two small Floreana factions were figuring out a workable way to co-exist, another group of homesteaders arrived, led by Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn, an Austrian who called herself “The Baroness.” She had three men in tow: her lovers Alfred Lorenz and Robert Phillipson, both German, and an Ecuadorian servant named Manuel Valdivieso. However, the Baroness had not come to Floreana to connect with nature, immediately announcing plans to build a grand hotel; she quickly had her crew set up a make-shift homestead that she called Hacienda Paradise.

Tensions between the three parties begin to rise before long. Eventually these tensions would boil over into a complex series of events that left everyone scratching their heads.
